Overview
Dr. Gerard Baltazar, DO, FACOS, FACS, FCCM, OMT, is a trauma and critical care surgeon and osteopathic manipulative treatment specialist. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology and fine art from Georgetown University and his medical degree from Touro University California. His postgraduate training focused on caring for underserved urban communities in New York City and Newark, New Jersey. He has served as Director of Surgical Critical Care at a safety-net hospital in the Bronx and as a Medical Director within a major New York healthcare system.
Dr. Baltazar’s research has focused on trauma outcomes, osteopathic manipulative treatment for injured and perioperative patients, and evidence-based guideline development. He subspecializes in surgical stabilization of rib fractures and founded the first Chest Wall Injury Society Collaborative Center in New York State. He has received numerous honors for research, education, mentorship, and service, including Mentor of the Year in 2018, Medical Educator of the Year in 2025, and the Outstanding Service Award in 2026. He currently serves as President of the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society.
