Dr. Ghassan Kamel specializes in acute and chronic pulmonary disorders, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and emphysema. He offers the latest in COPD and asthma treatment options, such as biologic therapies at the SLUCare Airway and Breathing Clinic. In addition, he provides care for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Dr. Kamel's research interests include asthma and COPD therapies, palliative care in the ICU, medical education and physician burnout and wellness. Dr. Kamel is an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and is the director of the medical intensive care unit at SSM Health Saint Louis University hospital. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society and a fellow of American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Kamel is fluent in English, French and Arabic.
His clinical expertise encompasses Cystic Fibrosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Chronic Eosinophilic Pneumonia, Simple Pulmonary Eosinophilia, and Gastrostomy.
Dr. Kamel is board certified in American Board Of Internal Medicine , American Board Of Internal Medicine/Critical Care Medicine , American Board Of Internal Medicine/Pulmonary Disease , Drug Enforcement Administration , Missouri Dept Of Health/Narcotics&Dangerous Drugs , and Missouri State Board Of Registration.
