Born in Morrone Del Sannio, Italy, Dr. Giuseppe Colasurdo earned his undergraduate degree at the Liceo Scientifico Galileo Galilei and his medical degree at the Università degli G. d'Annunzio School of Medicine, both in Pescara, Italy. He completed his residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and a fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Science Center and the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver. During his fellowship, he initiated studies on the autonomic regulation of the airway smooth muscle, the biology of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, and ontogeny of airway dysfunction and inflammation in childhood asthma. Dr. Colasurdo, who has been in practice since 1985, is board certified in pediatric pulmonology. He specializes in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), pediatric asthma and other lung disorders in infants and children. His primary clinical interests include gene-environment interactions, childhood asthma, wheezing and chronic lung disease in infancy. A distinguished, long-time member of the faculty of McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), Dr. Colasurdo is the current president of UTHealth. He is an internationally known researcher who has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Children’s Miracle Network and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
