Overview
Hani Fanous, MD, is a clinical instructor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He earned his medical degree from the Suez Canal University in Egypt. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Children’s National Hospital and his pediatric pulmonology fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System. His clinical interests are in cystic fibrosis (CF), primary cellular dyskinesia and rare lung disease. Dr. Fanous is grant funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation investigating the Pulmonary Transcriptomic Signature in Cystic Fibrosis and CFTR Modulator Therapy. He has completed multiple research projects characterizing phenotypic expression of rare Hispanic cystic fibrosis mutations and comparative clinical research in phenotypical diversity among siblings with the same CF genetic mutations. Dr. Fanous completed clinical research investigating healthcare disparities influencing lung function and mental health outcomes creating a gap between Hispanic and non-Hispanic patients with cystic fibrosis. He also conducted foundational research exploring how CFTR works in certain immune cells in people with Cystic Fibrosis. His work also examined how specific immune responses interact with Pseudomonas infections.

He has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Collaco is a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Research Development Center and the Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Center of Excellence. He has been recognized by Johns Hopkins with the John C. Hume Scholarship, the Francis F. Schwentker Research Award, and the Robert Dyar Award. He is the principal investigator of a NIH K01 International Research Scientist Development Award, through the Fogarty International Center, examining the role of pulse oximetry in Bangladeshi children with clinical pneumonia. Dr. McCollum is also a co-investigator for a study comprehensively examining the effectiveness of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in rural Bangladeshi children. In the southern African country of Malawi Dr. McCollum is the principal investigator of a randomized controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of bubble continuous positive airway pressure in children hospitalized with severe clinical pneumonia. He has successfully designed, led, or co-led several multi-site studies in developing countries throughout Africa and Asia including the novel application of pulse oximetry for children with clinical pneumonia by rural Malawian frontline health workers and digital auscultation as a respiratory diagnostic in six low-resource countries participating in the Pneumonia Etiology Research for Child Health study. Dr. McCollum has been recognized globally for his contributions to child respiratory health. He has won multiple early career investigator awards and is currently a member of the World Health Organization Technical Support Network for pneumococcal conjugate vaccine impact studies and a member of the World Health Organization expert global working group for the World Health Organization chest radiograph guidelines for children. He holds a joint faculty appointment in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Dr. Mccollum is highly rated in 2 conditions, according to our data.
