Overview

Dr. Hoover Adger Jr. is a professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His clinical interests include adolescent medicine, substance use and treatment of substance use disorders. Dr. Adger is a senior faculty member in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine. Dr. Adger is the director of both the Substance Use Assessment/Intervention Team at The Johns Hopkins Hospital Adolescent Program Co-Director of the CARE Clinic. He also serves as the faculty leader of the Colleges Advisory Program’s Sabin College. He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. He completed a pediatrics residency at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and a fellowship in adolescent medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1984, at which time he completed a M.P.H. in health policy. Dr. Adger served as deputy director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in 1997 and 1998. He served from 1999-2005 as co-director of a federally funded strategic planning initiative, a role in which he advised the federal government and other entities about improving and expanding interdisciplinary education and training of health professionals in substance-use disorders. His research interests include substance use disorders and medical education. Dr. Adger is a past president of both the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse and the National Association for Children of Alcoholics. He is recognized as a national leader and expert in the field of addiction medicine with a focus on adolescents and young adults.

Dr. Peter Rowe is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is the inaugural Sunshine Natural Wellbeing Foundation Professor of Chronic Fatigue and Related Disorders and serves as the Director of the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Related Disorders Program at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. His areas of clinical expertise include chronic fatigue syndrome and other disorders characterized by fatigue and orthostatic intolerance. Dr. Rowe and his colleagues were the first to describe the relationship between myalgic ecephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and treatable orthostatic intolerance syndromes, as well as the association between Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and ME/CFS. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, Dr. Rowe earned his medical degree at McMaster University Medical School in Ontario. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins and completed his fellowship in General Pediatric Academic Development. He was on the staff at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario from 1987-1991 before returning to Johns Hopkins in 1991. Dr. Rowe’s research focuses on the physiologic factors (circulatory dysregulation, allergic disorders, joint laxity, biomechanical strain, and neuroanatomic problems) that contribute to chronic fatigue as asymptom, and to ME/CFS and long COVID as conditions. In 2014, Dr. Rowe received the research award from the International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (IACFS/ME) for his clinical and scientific work on chronic fatigue syndrome and related disorders. He is a member of the research advisory council for Solve ME/CFS. He is also a member of the American Pediatric Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, the Canadian Pediatric Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
