
Overview
James A. Leonard is Clinical Professor and former Chair, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Michigan Medical School and is formerly the Medical Director of UM Orthotics & Prosthetics Center. He completed his Degree in Medicine UM Medical School and his PM&R Residency at University Hospital. Dr. Leonard is well known for his teaching of residents both medical and orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) and has won several teaching awards. He has served on the board of directors of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. In addition he has published many articles and book chapters related to the field of orthotics and prosthetics. Dr. Leonard’s research, as a principal and co-investigator, has focused on advances in the field. He has worked with plastic surgery on bio-interface for advanced prosthetics. Dr. Leonard is one of the PI’s for the America Works one million dollar matching grant that is a collaboration with O&P, UM Engineering and several outside companies to develop materials to be used in 3D printing for AFO’s and potentially other orthotic and prosthetic services.
