Overview
James Piper, MD, is an adult reconstruction orthopaedic surgeon with a clinical interest in robotic surgery. He performs total hip replacements as well as total and partial knee replacements for adults using robotic and manual techniques. He also performs revision hip and knee surgeries. Dr. Piper does total hip replacements via an anterior approach, which “tends to be a little less invasive, with an easier recovery,” he says.|“Oftentimes people with significant arthritis are very limited with what activities they can enjoy,” he says. “It isn't uncommon, for someone who has a joint replacement done for the right reasons, to say they got their life back. That's a pretty cool thing to hear. Joint replacement really can change lives.”|Dr. Piper earned his medical degree from St. George’s School of Medicine. After medical school, he completed residencies at Geisinger Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pa.|A love of working with his hands, along with being a high school and college athlete, inspired him to become an orthopaedic surgeon.|In his spare time, this native of Rochester, N.Y., enjoys sports, exercise, hunting, reading, and spending time with his wife (a Geisinger emergency medicine physician) and their young son.
