Dr. Jane Y. Yang

Dr. Patrick Ha is chief of the UCSF Division of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology. His expertise in patient care covers the full scope of head and neck surgery, with a focus on thyroid and parathyroid surgery as well as endoscopic approaches to throat cancer surgery. Ha's research is currently focused on molecular changes that occur in adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland. Ha received an undergraduate degree in biology from Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude. He obtained his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, graduating with membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed his residency training and a postdoctoral fellowship at the otolaryngology department of Johns Hopkins, along with advanced fellowship training in head and neck oncologic surgery. Ha serves on the editorial board of several medical journals, including Oral Oncology. He is the Irwin Mark Jacobs and Joan Klein Jacobs Distinguished Professor in Head and Neck Cancer. Chang's research interests include decision making in health care and improvements for sleep apnea therapy and sialendoscopy. She has written on topics related to hearing loss, salivary obstruction symptoms and treatment, otolaryngology resident perspectives, and smell and taste changes related to COVID-19. She has also authored book chapters on sleep apnea therapies, salivary disorders and imaging for salivary glands. She serves as the director of resident research for otolaryngology – head and neck surgery. Chang graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree and a master of engineering degree in electrical engineering and computer science. She earned her medical degree and completed her residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at UCSF. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
