Overview
Dr. Jessica Barnes was born and raised in Ithaca, Michigan. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Michigan State University in 2016 and subsequently graduated medical school from Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in 2021, where she graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. She completed her residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Michigan in 2024, where she served as a co-chief resident. She completed her Academic Medicine Fellowship at the University of Michigan in 2025. She has experience in adult inpatient medicine and attends on the University Family Medicine (UFM) service at Michigan Medicine. She also has experience in chronic disease management, in particular dyslipidemia evaluation and management. She has a passion for caring for rural populations.Dr. Barnes has a strong passion for medical education, in particular graduate medical education. She is a graduate of the Medical Education Scholars Program at the University of Michigan. She serves as the Academic Medicine Fellowship Director in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan. Her research interests are similarly within academic medicine, including leadership and advocacy within academic medicine and improving feedback quality towards medical trainees.Dr. Barnes sees patients at the Chelsea Health Center.
