
Overview
Dr. John Conway completed his medical training at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) before completing a sports medicine fellowship at the renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, Calif. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Nationally recognized as an authority on shoulder and elbow injuries in overhead athletes, Dr. Conway also is an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. He currently specializes in sports and active lifestyle medicine, with clinical and research interests in upper extremity sports medicine, baseball medicine, and complex shoulder and elbow reconstruction. He is an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is also an active member of the Editorial Board for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, an emeritus member and past President of the Major League Baseball Team Physicians Association and he has served on the Board of Directors for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is the recipient of the James R. Andrews Excellence in Baseball Sports Medicine Award from the American Sports Medicine Institute in 2010 and the Jack C. Hughston Sports Physicians Award from the American Physical Therapy Association / SPTS in 2016. He was listed in Orthopedics This Week as one of the Top 20 North American Shoulder Surgeons in 2015 and one of the Top 19 U.S. Sports Medicine Surgeons in 2013 by his peers. In 2015, he was included as one of the “59 Great Orthopedic Surgeons Recommended by Healthcare Leaders” in Becker’s Orthopedic and Spine Review. Frequently recognized as a Top Doctor by US News and World Report, he also has been listed annually since 1996 in Best Doctors in America and in Texas Super Doctors since 2004. Currently serving as assistant team physician for Justin Sports Medicine, Dr. Conway is also past head team physician for both the Texas Rangers Baseball Team and the University of Texas at Arlington. He also has served as a team orthopedic consultant for Texas Christian University Baseball. The author or co-author of more than 50 scientific publications, he also has given more than 250 international, national, regional and local presentations on sport medicine-related topics. A native of Dallas, Dr. Conway is married and has two daughters.

His research, teaching and clinical activity have earned Dr. Klineberg an international reputation in spinal deformity surgery. Author of over then 300 publications and book chapters, he also edited Adult Lumbar Scoliosis, A Clinical Guide to Diagnosis and Management and is a principal or co-principal investigator for more than a half-dozen clinical studies. His major research interests are enhancement of spinal fusion with stem cells and proteins and spinal deformity and outcomes. He serves on the board of directors of the Scoliosis Research Society and on the executive committee of the International Spine Study Group.
