Dr. Thomas A. Burkart, MD, graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1989 and received medical training at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. In 1996, he completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. He remained at the University of Florida for subsequent fellowship training in adult cardiovascular diseases and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Following this training, Dr. Burkart practiced electrophysiology at The Heart and Vascular Institute in Clearwater, Florida, before accepting a faculty position at the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2003 as a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist. While at the University, in addition to his clinical duties, he served as the director of the University's adult cardiovascular fellowship training program for nine years and achieved the rank of associate professor of medicine. He's practiced electrophysiology for the past 24 years. His clinical interests are in all fields of catheter ablation and device therapy for the management of cardiac arrhythmias and advanced heart failure.
