Overview
For John Collins, DO, the road to healthcare was paved early. “My mother was a nurse, and some of my earliest memories were looking through the pictures of her nursing-school books on various diseases,” Dr. Collins says. “As I grew older, and my studies advanced, my interest in healthcare and science was directed toward medicine.” Dr. Collins says developing relationships with patients and seeing them achieve healthy results make his work fulfilling. “Nothing in my job is more satisfying than working with my patient to get a chronic issue under control and seeing their quality of life improve,” he says. After four years of medical school and a residency, Dr. Collins and his wife were homesick for the Appalachian Highlands. He says it was the people whom they missed the most. When he isn’t working, Dr. Collins can often be found lifting cooking, lifting weights at the gym or barbecuing meats in his smoker.
