"Dr. Jonathan Velez-Rivera is a board-certified endocrinologist with Orlando Health Physician Associates specializing in diabetes and metabolism. His expertise includes: Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes Thyroid disorders Thyroid cancer Pituitary disease Hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia Hyperparathyroidism Adrenal disease High cholesterol Dr. Velez-Rivera was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 12 years old, and he has dedicated his career to advocating and fostering relationships among peers with Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Velez-Rivera’s Training Dr. Velez-Rivera earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, where he also received his medical degree and completed a pediatrics residency. He completed an adult endocrinology fellowship at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and served as an assistant professor of endocrinology at Duke University Health Systems. About Dr. Velez-Rivera Dr. Velez-Rivera is certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, in lipidology by the National Lipid Association and in clinical densitometry by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. He is licensed as a medical doctor by the Florida Department of Health. In his current role as Medical Director of the OHPA Diabetes Management Program, his focus is on improving patient outcomes in patients with Type I and Type II Diabetes. His peer-reviewed research has appeared in numerous medical journals, and he contributed a chapter to the book ""Cardiovascular Disease in Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations."" Dr. Velez-Rivera is fluent in English and Spanish.".

His clinical expertise encompasses Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), Hyperparathyroidism, Thyroid Storm, and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D).
