Philosophy of care | I fully believe in a passion for better medicine. I am here to serve the patient as they are the focus of each visit. I try to be flexible and accommodating with patients who are often traveling from afar. As a nurse practitioner, I am lucky to have an abundance of time with my patients which allows for ample education and counseling opportunities at each visit. I love what I do, and I think it shows with patients and their families. | Why I entered medicine | From a young age I knew that a career in medicine was for me. I have always worked in pediatrics and I can honestly say that I cannot imagine myself in any other career. Endocrinology - and especially pediatric diabetes - has always been a big part of my life, as I myself was diagnosed with Type I diabetes as a child. As a new nurse, my favorite patients were those with diabetes because I got a lot of satisfaction out of caring for them. I felt that I was able to give them advice from personal experience, and they seemed to really benefit from that. So as soon as the opportunity presented itself I took a job in pediatric endocrinology and haven't looked back since. I like to think that I take better care of my own diabetes because of the children and families that I take care of each day in the office. | Community involvement | I have been a member of several national organizations including the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) and the Pediatric Endocrine Nursing Society (PENS). I have served as an expert consultant for Cedar Crest College nursing department's type 1 diabetes advocacy grant program and also have provided continuing education modules for school nurses within multiple Lehigh Valley area school districts.
