Dr. Kanishk D. Sharma
Overview
Dr. Kanishk Sharma, is board-certified in Internal Medicine and recently finished his fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine. He joins our outpatient team at Phelps Hospital as a Geriatrician. He completed Eastern Virginia Medical School's unique Internal Medicine-Geriatrics combined program and fulfilled the role of third-year Chief Resident.
Dr. Sharma values the principles of healthy aging, longevity, and holistic medicine. Due to his interest in improving standards of care for older adults, he completed a two-year Improvement Science Fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School that focused on the Institute of Healthcare Improvement's (IHI) Model for Improvement. Dr. Sharma has led QI initiatives such as: increasing serious illness conversations in patients with a high risk of one-year mortality and interventions to reduce rehospitalization of heart failure patients admitted to Skilled Nursing Facilities. He has presented at multiple regional, state, and national conferences and won the Best Presidential Poster Award at the American Geriatric Society Conference in 2022.
