Anita McElroy, MD, PhD, is a pediatric infectious disease physician at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is also an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. McElroy earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and her doctorate from the University of California. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in emerging viruses at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases and a residency and fellowship in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Disease respectively, at Emory University. Dr. McElroy’s lab focuses on the study of emerging viruses, specifically, the mechanisms by which hemorrhagic fever viruses cause disease. She is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the American Society of Virology.
