Overview
Honestly, it was a calling. While I had fully intended to go into another career path (aviation), my goals changed suddenly after hearing a surgeon speak about his work overseas treating a very poor/underserved population. After this talk, I somehow knew that I should become a physician despite having no personal contact with the medical field. This calling has never left me. This profession has allowed me to personally connect with my patients and families, helping them through a variety of health issues. It has been a blessing to have patients call me their physician.What I want my patients to know about me:I spent 13 years working as a rural family physician in Washington State, treating people from birth to death. This practice involved OB, hospital rounds, ambulance calls, and home visits, and it gave me a broad background in primary care. After gaining experience with traditional medicine, I realized that healing occurs from a variety of methods. This caused me to receive training in acupuncture and holistic medicine, and I am board-certified in both. Another interest is improving the health of our Plain communities (Amish & Mennonite). I continue to provide home visits for my patients.What I do when I'm not seeing patients:Enjoying my family!Home projects of all kinds - (I used to do electrical work for 8 years). Woodworking- I enjoy being creative with wood.Eating - A variety of food appeals to me! Unfortunately, there aren't many foods/cuisines I don't like.Baking - I enjoy making homemade bread and goodies.Smoking (No, not that kind!) - mostly meat.Traveling - It is wonderful to experience other cultures.Going to plays at the Fulton Theater in Lancaster.Watching movies at home or in the theater.Gardening - In truth, I am only the hired help for my wife.
