
Overview
Dr. Kelly Fitzgerald is a medical oncologist who cares for patients with cancers of the genital and urinary tracts. Her goal is to improve her patients' lives through compassionate care and innovative research. Fitzgerald's research focuses on understanding how the immune system responds to cancer and on developing new immunotherapies, particularly for patients with kidney cancer. She is also interested in learning how metabolic factors – such as nutrition, exercise and molecular energy pathways (the body's systems for producing energy) – can affect cancer treatments. Fitzgerald earned her medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. She completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in medical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Fitzgerald has received several awards, including the Young Investigator Award and Merit Award from Conquer Cancer, the ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) Foundation, as well as the Scholar-in-Training Award from the American Association for Cancer Research. Outside of medicine, Fitzgerald loves playing soccer, enjoying live music, and camping and hiking with her family.
