Overview
I am a board-certified neurologist who specializes in seeing people affected by Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other progressive neurologic diseases. I’m also fellowship-trained in palliative care and see people with many different types of serious illnesses while they are in the hospital. I’m particularly interested in using the tools and approaches of palliative care to provide person- and family-centered care for people with serious neurologic diseases. My goal in meeting patients is to try to hear about their values and their life. I want to understand their illness through the lens of their life, rather than their life through the lens of their illness. Being able to engage with patients and families in this way is the most rewarding part of my practice.

I am a board-certified neurologist and clinical geneticist with special interest in movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, hereditary ataxias and spastic paraplegias, as well as other neurogenetic disorders. I have served as the medical director of the Struthers Parkinson's Center since 2000. In addition to the care of patients and families with neurologic diseases, I am also involved in clinical research to develop better treatments for Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease.
