Prior to joining Children's National, he had been a pediatric cardiologist in Northern Virginia and Montgomery County since 2011, where he served as the medical director of the exercise testing lab at his practice and involved in fetal and outpatient cardiology. He is a member of the Fontan Outcomes Network Physical Activity and Education workgroup and is an editor of CHIP Journal Watch for pediatric and fetal cardiology article reviews. His academic interests include studying the impact of exercise on improving outcomes in patients with congenital and acquired heart disease, as well as past collaborative research in non-cardiac patients such as evaluating exercise capacity in children with sickle cell anemia. Dr. Hershenson is married with five children and lives in Montgomery County. In his limited free time, he is involved with several local schools and community religious institutions. He also serves as a mentor for a program that matches college students interested in medicine with local professionals to provide guidance, teaching and support.
