
Overview
Lorraine Kiger, MD, IBCLC, is a board-certified pediatrician, fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). She is also associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Kiger received her medical degree from Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University and completed her residency at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Her clinical interests include breastfeeding medicine, young women’s health, and sports medicine. As a native Pittsburgher, she grew up in the East End and attended The Ellis School. She went on to play Division I varsity field hockey and major in Latin and pre-medicine at Yale University. She taught middle school Latin and English in Pittsburgh for a few years before moving to Ohio to start medical school. Dr. Kiger was thrilled to return home to Pittsburgh for residency and join UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics. In her spare time, Dr. Kiger enjoys taking her two daughters to Frick and Schenley parks, Triple B Farms, Phipps, the Aviary, and various museums. She is still involved in field hockey and plays competitively with the adult field hockey club, SteelStyx. Her husband is a research professor at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Physics and Astronomy and a member of the US Men’s Indoor National Field Hockey Team.
