
Overview
Dr. Chisolm is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine. She has 3 decades of clinical experience, has served as PI or co-investigator on multiple nationally-funded research projects, and has published over 150 scientific, clinical, and medical education papers on psychiatric disorders and humanistic medical practice, as well as two textbooks and – most recently – a book for patients and families living with mental illness: From Survive to Thrive: Living Your Best Life with Mental Illness. Dr. Chisolm is a member of the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence and the Director of the Paul McHugh Program for Human Flourishing where she uses the arts and humanities to explore the ‘big questions’ - what it means to be human, to be a physician, and to lead a good life (for doctors and patients) - with medical learners. She completed the Harvard Macy Institute Art Museum-based Health Professions Education fellowship and is a certified Visual Thinking Strategies facilitator and coach. A native of Athens, Greece, Professor Lyketsos graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Psychology and from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis with a Medical Doctorate. He completed residency and Chief Residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins, as well as a fellowship in clinical epidemiology. An active clinician, teacher, and researcher, Dr. Lyketsos is a world expert in the care and treatment of patients with Alzheimer’s and related dementias (ADRD). He carried out pioneering work on the epidemiology and treatment of neuropsychiatric features of AD. His team is developing biomarkers to accelerate treatment development for AD while designing and implementing innovative clinical trials. He leads efforts to ensure the provision of state-of-the-art Dementia Care for people with dementia in the community. Dr. Lyketsos is the Elizabeth Plank Althouse Professor at Johns Hopkins University. He directs the Johns Hopkins Bayview Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, as well as the Richman Family Precision Medicine Center of Excellence in Alzheimer’s Disease and the Memory and Alzheimer’s Treatment Center. He is the recipient of multiple awards including the 2022 Argo Award for Science from the President of the Hellenic Republic. He has authored/co-authored over 450 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, commentaries, as well as five books. His work has been cited over 76,000 times with an h-index of 149. A 2021 Stanford University publication reported that he ranked #13 out of 9,246 scientists worldwide (all-time) in the field of Geriatrics. Castle-Connolly has named Dr. Lyketsos as one of America’s Top Doctors every year since 2001.
