Overview
I practice clinical occupational medicine with an administrative component of medical directorships. The clinical aspect includes about a 50/50 split between injury care and pre-employment physicals. I really enjoy working with complicated DOT physicals. It provides a unique opportunity to identify new or poorly controlled health conditions and refer drivers for treatment/optimization in a generally underserved population that may not seek care otherwise. I also enjoy doing some of my own joint injections where advanced image guidance is not required to help expedite care. I enjoy counseling patients on the different aspects of their care and overall health. Patients often experience clustered care and are confused about all the different things that are prescribed to them or they are referred for. Bringing everything together really improves the patient experience. Patients have a better experience when they are clearly informed about their particular circumstances – both opportunities and limitations. Having a clear line of communication about all aspects of care helps expedite and coordinate care. I also enjoy treating patients as a whole, including implementing lifestyle medicine/integrative medicine consultative aspects into practice to help expedite patients in achieving their goals.
