As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, I work to preserve and restore eyesight. I completed four years of medical and surgical specialized eye training after completing medical school. Patients often come to see me when glasses or contacts are no longer correcting their vision. I am able to diagnose and treat a wide variety of eye conditions, including cataracts and glaucoma. Finding and treating glaucoma early can be the difference between permanent vision loss and maintaining functional vision. Floaters, diabetes-related eye disease, macular degeneration and dry eye are very common diagnoses as well. I can’t imagine a more enjoyable part of the practice of medicine than giving back vision. It is a blessing to be able to help patients get back to good vision and the life they used to lead. While restoration to health is not always possible, there is always room for healing. This is the “telos,” or purpose of medicine. Healing the eye involves the restoration of eyesight, but it also includes preventing or slowing vision-threatening disease. Based on physical examination, I can diagnose which part of the eye is responsible for the problem and then address it through medication, lasers, injections or surgery.
