Overview
Matthew Fanelli, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. He treats a variety of hip, shoulder and knee conditions. After medical school, he completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he served as chief resident. He followed that with a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine at the Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Jackson, Miss. He credits his father, Geisinger sports medicine surgeon Gregory Fanelli, MD, for inspiring him to pursue a career in medicine. And because his wife Tina is an orthodontist, he jokes that “‘ortho is a family affair.”|He’s an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and Pennsylvania Ortho Society.|Dr. Fanelli is an accomplished researcher and presenter. He’s published numerous journal articles, book chapters and abstracts, and presented at conferences around the country. He serves as an assistant professor at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.|A native of Danville, Dr. Fanelli wanted to return to the area for orthopaedic surgery practice.|In his spare time, he enjoys running, hiking and spending time with his family.
