Overview
I am a pediatrician who treats children ranging from newborns through adolescents. I’ve been at Duke for over 10 years. I believe in involving the family during each visit. At well child visits, I listen to the child’s parents so I can learn about the family’s concerns about their child’s health both now and as the child grows. For a sick visit, I try to educate the family on what’s going on and answer their questions before doing what I can to help the child get healthy. I chose pediatrics because it involves many things I enjoy, such as working with children and families, science, evidence-based medicine, and preventative care. My favorite part of my job is seeing children grow up as I treat them. I also love when I see my patients around town, being healthy and active. In my off time, I enjoy spending time with my two children, playing tennis, reading and traveling.

I treat children and adolescents who have gained weight too quickly and have health problems associated with weight. My research focuses on helping children live their healthiest life possible through nutrition, activity, and engagement in community activities. I have expertise in childhood nutrition issues including obesity in children and teenagers. It is such a privilege to be a part of families' lives. I have a special interest in patient-centered communication and am passionate to see physicians, patients, and parents communicate with each other to meet their mutual goals. I believe a shared decision making approach benefits patients and their families the most.
