I believe in working for health equity for all individuals and communities by providing primary care. As a clinician, I find great joy in working with refugee and immigrant patients to address their health concerns in a just and culturally sensitive manner. I value listening to patients as one of the most important tools in striving to provide the best health care possible. As a medical anthropologist, I am very interested in understanding the impact of socioeconomics and culture on health and illness. In my role as a member of the global health faculty at the University of Minnesota, I work both here in Minnesota and in northern Uganda to improve community-based primary care delivery, teach about the social determinants of health and build partnerships based upon respect and equality that advance health for all. I love biking to work, spending time outdoors, cooking, winter and spending quality time with my family and friends.
