Overview
Native Houstonian Dr. Michael Strauss graduated from DeBakey High School for Health Professions and The University of Texas at Austin. After earning his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico, he spent an additional year at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y. He completed his residency in Puerto Rico at Damas Hospital, Ponce School of Medicine and a fellowship in nephrology at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Dr. Strauss, who has practiced in Texas since 2013, is board certified in nephrology and internal medicine. He also speaks Spanish. Among the conditions he treats are chronic kidney disease, parathyroid disease, hyperparathyroidism, hyperkalemia, acidosis, end-stage renal disease, renal hyperparathyroidism and acute kidney failure. His practice philosophy is based on communication, accessibility and education. Dr. Strauss works to address chronic kidney disease and its risk factors, such as hypertension, at their early stages in an effort to prevent or delay the need for dialysis. He believes it is important to educate patients on their conditions so that they can make well-informed health care decisions. Dr. Strauss has been a National Kidney Foundation volunteer at health fairs, educating and screening patients for hypertension and kidney disease.
