Overview

Neha Shah, MD, is a pediatric hospitalist and associate division chief in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C., and a professor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She has been the program director of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellowship Program at Children’s National since 2010. Dr. Shah received her undergraduate and medical degrees at The George Washington University SMHS. Subsequently, she completed categorical pediatric residency and PHM fellowship at Children’s National. An award-winning expert in medical education, Dr. Shah’s scholarly area of interest is in curriculum development, specifically around PHM fellowship training and faculty development for medical educators. She has been intimately involved in trainee and faculty education on care of children with medical complexity in the inpatient setting, from curriculum development to assessment using virtual simulation, and has published numerous articles and resources on this topic. Currently, she is actively engaged in faculty coaching for academic promotion and implementation of wellness initiatives for faculty and trainees, such as leading the implementation of a peer support program for the medical staff and studying the impact of community building and wellness activities on PHM faculty engagement and burnout. Nationally, Dr. Shah has played an integral role in the development of standards for fellowship training in PHM as chair of the Council of PHM Fellowship Directors and as an invited member of the inaugural PHM sub-board of the American Board of Pediatrics.
