"I am an anesthesiologist and critical care doctor who takes care of the critically ill throughout the Duke Hospital System. My focus is to help patients return to their lives and to guide their families through these difficult times. I firmly believe that understanding a patient’s history, both clinically and personally, is important in treating them and to that end, I dedicate as much time as possible with patients and their loved ones, listening and learning about who they are as a person. A quote that helps guide my work is from Anatole Broyard who wrote about his own health condition that ""To most physicians, my illness is a routine incident in their rounds, while for me it's the crisis of my life. I would feel better if I had a doctor who at least perceived this incongruity."" I think it is important to remember this each day and each patient.
