Pelin Cengiz, MD, is a UW Health Kids pediatric critical care medicine doctor. She’s also a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.Dr. Cengiz cares for infants, children and young adults with critical illnesses and injuries. She works with a team of specialists in the intensive care unit to treat serious or life-threatening conditions. These include severe infections or trauma, organ failure and transplants, respiratory failure and congenital heart disease.As a partner to people in their most difficult moments, Dr. Cengiz strives to provide comprehensive state-of-the-art support for patients and their families. She puts herself in her patient’s shoes to understand their feelings and find the best ways to help them overcome stressful situations. She empowers patients to become more involved in their care, from encouraging them to join daily rounds with the medical team to participating in discussions about their health.In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Cengiz studies the impact of traumatic injuries on male versus female brains.Outside of work, Dr. Cengiz enjoys playing tennis, dancing, photography and spending time in nature.I strive to improve each patient’s quality of life so they can continue to grow and be a vital part of their community.
