I chose internal medicine because I enjoy the continuity of care and long-term relationships with my patients. Helping patients manage chronic conditions and coordinating care over time is something that I have found rewarding. Preventive care and counseling patients on staying healthy are also areas that interest me. I strive to be a good listener and aim to be a straightforward communicator, avoiding medical jargon and using language that is understandable for patients and their families. With so much of disease being preventable and easily managed by patients, I work to empower patients to take control of their health. As the Department Chair for Internal Medicine and one of the Regional Assistant Medical Directors for HealthPartners, my clinical time is limited. In my role as a medical director, it is rewarding to help develop systems that improve the health of all of our patients and ensure that they receive the best care at the right time. Maintaining my clinical practice is also something that I am very committed to, as it is what attracted me to the field of internal medicine in the first place. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, staying active, knitting, baking cookies, watching Twins baseball and traveling.
