Overview
Growing up in the Dominican Republic, Rebekah Torres, fluent in Spanish, helped interpret for English-speaking medical groups serving in that country. Because of this experience, she decided early in life to become a nurse. A Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and member of the team at the Neurology and Pain Specialty Center, Rebekah specializes in movement disorders, specifically Parkinson’s disease. She also has extensive experience and a comprehensive knowledge of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Rebekah performs many duties, including coordinating surgical candidates for deep brain stimulation, providing their follow-up care and adjusting deep brain stimulators.
In 2002, Rebekah graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego with a B.S. in nursing. In 2007, she earned her M.S. in nursing/family nurse practitioner. Rebekah started her professional career at South Coast Medical Center in Laguna Beach, California where she provided full patient care on the medical/surgical/telemetry unit, including full physical assessments, administering medications and monitoring cardiac status. As Charge Nurse, she collaborated with multiple disciplines, including physicians, physical therapists, nutritionists and case managers. In 2003, Rebekah teamed with Dr. Martinez to organize and manage and grow his Movement Disorder Clinic.
Her clinical expertise encompasses Movement Disorders, Parkinson's Disease, Secondary Parkinsonism, and Essential Tremor.
