Robert Keating, MD, is currently a McCullough distinguished professor, interim senior vice president, Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine Center and chief of Neurosurgery at Children’s National Hospital. A graduate of Georgetown University Medical School, he completed a neurosurgery residency and fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery/craniofacial surgery at the Albert Einstein and Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. Following his training, Dr. Keating served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Oakland Naval Hospital serving as the chief from 1991-1994. After his time in the Navy, he returned to the Bronx where he was on staff at Montefiore Medical Center as well as the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center for two years before coming back to Washington, D.C., in 1996 to join the faculty at Children’s National Dr. Keating's past appointments include the president of the medical staff at Children’s National, as well as head of credentials. He currently maintains a busy practice of pediatric neurosurgery, with an emphasis on tumors, Chiari malformations, craniofacial reconstruction, spinal dysraphism, spasticity and brachial plexus surgery. As a member of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery and International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery, he has published and presented extensively in the field. His publications include the previous texts, “An Atlas of Orbitocranial Surgery” and “Tumors of the Pediatric Nervous System” (2nd edition published in 2013), with current work on Neurosurgical Operative Atlas, (2nd ed. Goodrich JT, and Keating RF, Thieme) due for publication in 2018. He is also chair, medical advisory committee on the Board of the American Syringomyelia Alliance Project as well as a founding member of the Posterior Fossa Society and maintains long-standing membership in the CNS, AANS, ASPN and ISPN. Chima Oluigbo, MD, FRCSC, FAANS, is a pediatric neurosurgeon at Children’s National Hospital and Professor of Neurological Surgery, Neurology and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. He specializes in the surgical care of children with epilepsy as well as pediatric functional and restorative neurosurgery. He uses minimally invasive techniques to treat patients with epilepsy. These techniques include the Visualase laser ablation therapy and the ROSA robot assisted epilepsy surgery. He also uses advanced intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) during epilepsy surgery to optimize seizure control outcomes. Dr. Oluigbo previously led the epilepsy surgery service at the Ohio State University Medical Center where he was actively involved in functional neurosurgery (deep brain stimulation). His research interests include epilepsy surgery, deep brain stimulation, functional neurological restoration and the development of innovative neuromodulation therapies for the treatment of chronic neurological disorders including epilepsy, movement disorders, neurobehavioral and cognitive disorders, chronic pain and spasticity in children.
