Dr. Rohini Manaktala
Overview
Cardiologist Dr. Rohini Manaktala is board certified in four areas: echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. She is board eligible in Interventional Cardiology. She has been recently inducted as a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), joining her peers in one of the most prestigious cardiology societies. After finishing her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia, Dr. Manaktala earned her medical degree at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a certificate in Health Professions education at the University of Connecticut, where she also completed her residency in Internal Medicine. She underwent fellowship training in Cardiovascular Medicine at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana, and in Interventional Cardiology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Dr. Manaktala treats a wide variety of cardiac conditions including arrythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), heart failure, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, hypertension and high cholesterol. She also reads cardiac stress tests and echocardiograms. She performs procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab including percutaneous coronary interventions (placing stents for tight blockages in the coronary vessels). One of her foremost clinical interests is heart disease in women. Although coronary heart disease affects as many women as men, women tend to underrecognize their symptoms. Because of this, Dr. Manaktala works to spread awareness among her female patients. Her favorite part of practice is the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives by helping them improve their health and having a better quality of life. Overall, being a physician is a humbling experience, in Dr. Manaktala’s opinion. She has presented at national conferences, published in a variety of well-known medical journals and is an active member in Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions, and the American College of Cardiology.
She is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 4 peer reviewed articles. Dr. Manaktala is currently accepting new patients.
