Overview

Sanjay Desai was the Director of the Osler Medical Residency and is the Vice-Chair for Education in the Department of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University. He is the Myron L. Weisfeldt Professor of Medicine holds appointments in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, General Internal Medicine and the Carey School of Business. He chaired the Executive Committee of the iCOMPARE study group whose outcomes on-duty hours in graduate medical education were recently published in a series of articles in the New England Journal of Medicine. He is also PI for an AMA Reimagining Residency grant establishing a multi-institutional laboratory measuring how to optimize clinical skill and well-being in graduate medical education. Sanjay serves on national committees for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. Sanjay grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science in bioengineering and a bachelor of economics from the Wharton School of Business in healthcare management. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his medical residency and subspecialty fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where is also served as a Chief Resident. During his training, he spent two years as a consultant for McKinsey & Company working in a variety of industries both in the US and in South East Asia. Sanjay lives in Bethesda, Maryland with his wife and twin boys.

Paul M. Hassoun, M.D., is professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the director of the pulmonary hypertension program at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
