While dealing with health issues in high school, Sylvia encountered her first experience with a nurse practitioner. The nurse practitioner took the time to listen to her and find the source of the problem, ultimately leading to the appropriate treatment. This experience played an influential role in Sylvia’s life and her career choice. “People, including kids, want to be heard,” she says. “I want families to know I am here to advocate for them and their child.” Sylvia makes it a point to take her time with patients and sometimes gets a giggle in while doing it. “Kids have stories to tell, and they definitely make my day interesting and fun.”.
