I believe patients need to understand their medical conditions to manage them effectively. I strive to build a trusting and compassionate environment to ensure patients feel motivated to take an active role in their health. Additionally, I embrace cutting edge technology, such as continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, to help optimize management and improve quality of life.|A clinical interest is treating patients with type 1 diabetes through insulin pump therapy.|Why I Love My Work|I enjoy building trusting relationships with patients and encouraging them to take control of their health.|My motivation to pursue endocrinology stems from my passion for fitness, overall health, and a belief in empowering others to lead healthier lives. Living with type 1 diabetes has given me first-hand experience of the challenges and triumphs of managing a chronic condition, fueling my drive to support others on similar journeys.|Getting to Know Me|My wife and I love the outdoors and are working on visiting every Minnesota state park and U.S. national park. I am a fitness enthusiast and sports fanatic. A proud accomplishment was being able to complete Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth in under four hours!.

I am a research clinician at International Diabetes Center (IDC). I work with patients participating in research studies related to type 1 and type 2 diabetes and new diabetes technology. For more information about the many studies offered through IDC, please call 952-993-3500. Being involved in diabetes research can help individuals better manage their diabetes or may help the next generation of people with diabetes. As Executive Director of the IDC, I also participate in training professionals in the US and internationally and publishing diabetes educational materials for patients and professionals. Translating new research findings into improvements in diabetes care is my major professional focus. We are finding that the best approach to improve care is by working as a team and to focus on the needs of each patient. My outreach diabetes clinic in Willmar Minnesota keeps me in clinical practice. My two granddaughters keep me active, amazed and inspired.
