Dr. Zahra Sharifmohamed

I believe that care should be patient centered and done in collaboration with patients, focusing on their preventive health and incorporating an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits for the whole family.|My clinical interests include preventive medicine, especially in underserved communities. I come from a Somali background where many times patients only seek medical care when sick. I am dedicated to changing that and sharing the importance of annual visits as well as screenings.|Why I Love My Work|Medicine has always been a crucial part of my life as I spent time caring for my grandmother who was in and out of the hospital. There I was exposed to the profound impact her health care providers had on her, and I desired to be that for someone else someday. I was not sure what role I wanted to hold in medicine; however, working with many physician assistants during my time as a medical scribe in the ER, becoming a physician assistant felt like the right fit for me.|I chose family medicine because I enjoy working with patients with a variety of medical conditions. The best part of the job genuinely is the daily interactions with patients. I really enjoy talking with people from all cultural backgrounds and learning new things. I love connecting with others and working together to create health care plans and goals.|Getting to Know Me|I am very passionate about youth and advocating for the community. One of my big personal interests is giving back to my community and working with organizations to remind people about the importance of taking control of their own health. A unique fact about myself is that I come from a large family of eight siblings and one of our favorite things to do is play silly board games.
