Overview
Dr. Omar H. Atassi, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in trauma and fractures to the bones, joints and soft tissues. Dr. Atassi received his MD degree and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology and Post-traumatic Reconstruction at the world-renowned Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, Florida.He also was an AO Traveling Fellow with the AO Foundation in Barcelona, Spain. During fellowship, he worked under the tutelage of Roy Sanders, MD and other leaders in orthopedic trauma.His research focused on adult and pediatric fractures as well as complex injuries of the joint. His research has been presented at national conferences.As an orthopedic trauma surgeon, Dr. Atassi cares for patients at several locations including Baylor St. Luke's at McNair Campus, Baylor St. Luke's in the Texas Medical Center and Ben Taub General Hospital. He oversees an array of orthopedic trauma cases - from managing the complex polytrauma patient admitted to Ben Taub General Hospital, Harris county's level one trauma center, to ambulatory fractures and chronic injuries at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center at McNair Campus.Dr. Atassi believes that unlike most of medicine where the goal is adding years to someone's life, in orthopedics the goal is to add LIFE to patients' years. He carries this mantra with him every day as he cares for his patients, striving to get them back to their pre-injury level of function. Dr. Atassi is accepting new patients.
