Dr. Huang is known for his clinical and research work in nervous system injury and repair, including traumatic brain injury, spinal trauma and peripheral nerve injuries. He also is the Director of the Neuroscience Institute and holds the Plummer Endowed Chair in Neuroscience. His main research interest lies in the field of nervous system injury and repair. His lab has active extramural research funding including a prestigious R01 award from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Huang has a general neurosurgery practice and performs surgeries for complex spinal disorders, brain tumors, and peripheral nerve disorders, and he also treats patients with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and cerebrovascular diseases. He is author or co-author of 150 peer-reviewed articles, editorial reviews and book chapters, and he holds six U.S. patents. Dr. Huang has served as an invited reviewer at several NIH Study Sections, at the Department of Defense and the Department of Veteran Affairs Research Grants. Dr. Huang also was an Army Reserve neurosurgeon and was deployed to Balad Theater Hospital in Iraq in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received an Army Commendation Medal for his exceptional efforts treating over 1,200 injured U.S. soldiers with brain and spinal trauma.     Dr. Justin A. Neira, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery, Specializing in all aspects of spinal surgery with a particular interest in spinal oncology, spinal cord tumors, degenerative spine disease (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), and spinal cord injury. Dr. Neira has spearheaded the cross-campus surgical spinal oncology program with his colleagues from oncology and radiation oncology at NYP-Columbia, NYP-Och, and NYP-Westchester.
