I grew up in Florida where my father was an orthopedist. I watched him making a day-to-day difference in people’s lives, and it inspired me to want that too. I started my career in Washington, D.C., working on health care policy, but quickly learned that I could be more effective by directly caring for people, so I followed in my father’s footsteps. Because of the variety of problems we encounter in the field of pediatric orthopedics, the work is always interesting and challenging. On a personal level, what I enjoy most is working with children and families. It’s so rewarding to help a child overcome obstacles so they can reach their full potential. I’m passionate about trying to help families find the right solution for their child’s problem. My special interests are children with spinal deformities, sports medicine and pediatric trauma. I’ve become passionate about injury prevention. Children are exposed to a lot of potential trauma in sports. It’s important to take precautions to keep them safe. I stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and technologies so I can deliver the highest quality care possible. I work to establish a team approach with my patients and their families. Informed decision-making leads to better outcomes, and that means bringing families in on everything they need to know about the best options for treatment.I also participate in research, student education and national organizations that help improve orthopedics. My wife and I have three children. They are part of the reason I volunteer to help children in countries that don’t have pediatric services. Dr. Lovejoy is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acromesomelic Dysplasia. His top areas of expertise are Scoliosis, Clubfoot, Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia, and Claw Foot.

In addition to my work as an orthopedic surgeon, I help educate our next generation of physicians. I train orthopedic surgery residents during their pediatric rotations, and I am the fellowship director at Nemours, where orthopedic surgeons do extra training to learn the art and science of pediatric orthopedics. I have academic appointments at The University of Florida and The Mayo Clinic, present original research at national meetings, give lectures as an invited speaker to various medical groups, and serve on committees for multiple national orthopedic organizations. Some of the highlights of this work have been producing educational content for patients and their families that can be found on the websites of the Scoliosis Research Society, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and Nemours’ own KidsHealth. It’s such an incredible privilege for parents to allow me to treat their children. I learned early in my orthopedic training just how amazing children are, even in the face of serious illness. Their toughness, resilience and positive attitudes inspire me to be the best doctor I can be to help them and their parents manage their conditions. I’m passionate about making a difference in children’s lives, and I’m so proud to work for Nemours. Nemours and I share mission-driven values, making sure that all children who need care have access to our services, and treating all children equally. I want to make sure all my patients receive individualized care, tailored to their specific needs. I’m passionate about learning new things, teaching others and helping all my patients, colleagues, students, assistants and friends accomplish their goals. My medical interests and expertise includes:ScoliosisSpinal DeformityIdiopathic ScoliosisNeuromuscular ScoliosisCongenital ScoliosisSyndromic ScoliosisEarly Onset ScoliosisKyphosisCerebral PalsyLeg Length DiscrepancyInfant Hip DysplasiaFractures We're doing all we can to help patients and their families understand and treat scoliosis. I was raised in Bahrain and Holland before moving to the U.S., and served in the Navy in Operation Desert Storm. I’ve always been interested in athletics. In school I ran cross-country, played soccer and tennis, and was a diver for the swim team. My wife is an Occupational Medicine physician, and our daughter is an occupational therapist. I enjoy working with children and spending time with my patients and families. I always wanted to go into medicine and became interested in pediatric orthopedics after working with a professor with cerebral palsy, who also inspired me to specialize in that condition. I believe all children, regardless of financial means, should have the same opportunities for medical care when they need it. One of the reasons I joined Nemours is because it’s not-for-profit, and personal gain isn’t part of the equation. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. Growing up, I was athletic, studious, and inquisitive. I’ve always been fascinated with anatomy. My own medical experiences with sports injuries and the physicians who cared for me were instrumental in helping me choose my career. I love caring for children. They have so much energy and an incredible ability to adapt and recover. They are honest – sometimes brutally, sometimes hilariously. At times, it’s like a double-edged sword – there is great joy and deep pain. But the parents and patients inspire me and keep me going. I’m passionate about innovation, particularly within my specialty – pediatric interventional radiology – which provides new and better therapies for kids. I’m also passionate about ensuring that the disadvantaged pediatric population has the opportunity to receive the best possible healthcare as everyone else. Taking the time to be in the moment and see each patient from the view of the family, both medically and socially. What is the definition of Acromesomelic Dysplasia?

Acromesomelic dysplasia describes a group of extremely rare, inherited, progressive skeletal conditions that result in a particular form of short stature, called short-limb dwarfism. The short stature is the result of unusually short forearms and forelegs (mesomelia) and abnormal shortening of the bones in the hands and feet (acromelia). At birth, the hands and feet may appear abnormally short and broad. Over time, the apparent disproportion becomes even more obvious, especially during the first years of life. Additional features may include: limited extension of the elbows and arms; progressive abnormal curvature of the spine; an enlarged head; and a slightly flattened midface. Acromesomelic dysplasia is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. There are different types of Acromesomelic dysplasia, which are distinguished by their genetic cause.

When should I see an Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor in Florida, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing an Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor in Florida, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctors in Florida, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctors in Florida, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with an Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor in Florida, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with an Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor in Florida, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctors in Florida, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find an Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Acromesomelic Dysplasia doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
