Roger H. Emerson, M.D., comes from a family of physicians. His father was an obstetrician and his grandfather a general surgeon. It was very natural for me to pursue medicine, he says.What made me want to pursue orthopedics was seeing the excellent results my father experienced when he had total hip surgery. While I was in college, my father's hip became increasingly uncomfortable, and he was unable to ski with the family or play ball with his kids.
