Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I was born in Bermuda to Jamaican parents and raised and educated in the United States. Atlanta is my hometown, but Florida has become my second home. Gastroenterology gives me the opportunity to treat acute problems, such as vomiting, diarrhea and belly pain, as well as chronic conditions like Crohn’s disease and celiac diseases. Pediatrics gives me hope. The kids I meet are very resilient. I feel like I can make a difference in their lives and the lives of their families. I’m passionate about nutrition. It is personally satisfying to help children who are underweight get to a good place. I also care deeply about the welfare of children living with celiac disease. I try hard to help them and their families understand the gluten-free diet and navigate around lifestyle obstacles that can make it hard to follow. I try to make a difference by looking at the “big picture” well-being of a child, not just their specific GI disease. To be effective, I have to take the family situation into account. It’s important to always consider the total health of a child. Dr. Denham is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acute Pancreatitis. She is also highly rated in 13 other conditions, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC), Lactose Intolerance, Encopresis, and Malnutrition. Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I grew up in Erie, PA, and was a quiet kid, although I still managed to get into trouble because of my curiosity. Today, I view curiosity as an asset – it helps me be a better doctor. I knew in grade school I wanted to be a doctor. My own pediatrician was an inspiration. He looked out for me and my siblings growing up and that appealed to me. Kids are fun. They appeal to the lightheartedness in me and are such an inspiration because they truly want to get better. Kids are honest and motivated. I feel strongly about access to affordable, quality healthcare for everyone. I try to get to know each patient – let them tell their side of the story. Everyone has a story to tell and who am I to judge or have preconceived notions. Dr. Ngo is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acute Pancreatitis. She is also highly rated in 2 other conditions, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, Malnutrition, Leigh Syndrome, and Maternally Inherited Leigh Syndrome. Dr. Ngo is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.
Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to be a physician when I grew up. My interest in pediatrics began after I moved to the United States in 1996. I speak English and Urdu fluently, and Spanish well enough to talk with patients and families without a translator. My favorite ways to relax are fishing and bicycling. Caring for sick children is a calling. It is the best feeling in the world to put a smile back on a child’s face. I care deeply about bringing high-quality care to all patients, including children who live in smaller communities. I strongly believe that good communication is very important for good care. I love talking to families and empowering them so they can help their child heal. Dr. Ali is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acute Pancreatitis. He is also highly rated in 2 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, Malnutrition, Delayed Growth, and Cerebral Hypoxia. Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I love being a pediatrician. No parent or child wants to spend a night at the hospital. The hospital can be a scary experience for everyone involved: not knowing what to expect, being away from the familiar routines of home and school, and (on top of it all) worrying about illness and discomfort. During medical school, I was surprised by how much seeing a child in need energized me to take action. For those moments that I am with them, their world is my world. I am honored to be given the opportunity to work with children in this setting. My goal is to help mitigate fears and work with families and their child/children towards returning everyone to health and play. To get them back to being ballerinas, astronauts, firefighters and superheroes. I believe health for children is not only freedom from disease, but access to quality education, housing, nutrition, relationships and resources. To that goal, I have worked with the Virginia Department of Health, Richmond City Health Department, spoken at both the state and national government levels with House Representatives and Senators, served in the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and was involved regionally in the southeast and nationally with leadership in the American Academy of Pediatrics — advocating for more equitable and evidence-driven care. By being a voice for children. By holding myself up to the highest standards so I can be the best pediatrician for your child and family. Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I began working at Nemours Children’s Hospital in July 2016 after completing my fellowship training at Nemours/duPont Hospital for Children in Delaware. I was excited to continue on with Nemours because I am proud to be a physician in an environment where we uphold the standards that your children are our No. 1 priority. I’ve always wanted to be a pediatrician. When I was five years old I remember telling my very own pediatrician, “One day, I’ll grow up and work at your office!” I chose gastroenterology because it’s a dynamic field where I get to work with kids of all ages in many different care settings including inpatient, outpatient and procedure. I stand true with the “Your child, our promise” motto. I am excited to share the Nemours commitment to patient-centered care — medicine, which allows me to make a real difference in a family’s life. Every child has a right to play, eat and learn, and I believe it’s my duty to create a better world for kids to succeed. My passion is helping families build a healthy, peaceful environment for children to live symptom-free and achieve their highest potential. I also enjoy giving lectures and providing mentorship to the physicians of tomorrow. Medicine allows me to make a real difference in a family’s life, which is why I stay up-to-date with the latest treatments and research. I have always been intrigued by new developments in medicine that create new hope for a child. I listen to my patients and parents and I’m always here to offer reassurance and a reason to smile — because kids deserve it. Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I grew up mostly in Florida and love this state. I went to the University of Florida for my undergraduate studies, graduating with highest honors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2002. I then went to Wake Forest University in North Carolina for both medical school (graduating in 2007) and residency (graduating in 2011). Since that time, I’ve been a pediatric hospitalist, initially working for the University of Oklahoma system before coming back home to Florida and to Nemours. I absolutely love the complexity and extreme diversity of inpatient pediatric medicine, and am especially sympathetic that kids don’t usually cause their own medical problems. It’s not their fault and I want to help them. As a mother of three young children, I feel very fulfilled and thankful every day for the opportunity to take care of children and their families. Most importantly, I am passionate about providing excellent patient care, teamwork and family-centered care. I’m also passionate about teaching and about pediatric medicine in general. Ever since I graduated from residency, I’ve been involved in the teaching of medicine. I enjoy the lifelong learning, the challenges of cases that are more difficult and the educational interaction with students/residents. I aim to inspire, challenge and encourage young learners to become successful educators and leaders in their respective fields, while truly enjoying what we do. I’m excited to be here at Nemours Children's Hospital and to be part of starting a residency program from the ground up with some truly amazing people. Nemours is definitely a unique and very impressive freestanding children’s hospital, and I feel privileged to be part of it. I like being a point-of-contact for families. It’s important to me to focus and cater to the needs of each individual family. As a hospitalist, I like working with a team of specialists to care for children. We have common goals. I can’t imagine not working with kids! The smiles on their faces are priceless. I wouldn’t want to do anything else. Kids amaze me every day. In so many ways, they are stronger than most adults – resilient. I’m passionate about the kids. Seeing their faces each morning keeps me coming back and gives me the passion to help and be there for them during the tough times. Dr. Gill is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acute Pancreatitis. She is also highly rated in 1 other condition, according to our data. Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
My parents left Poland for the United States when I was five, and for the most part I grew up in Florida since then. I found my life’s direction as a teen volunteer at an orthopedic hospital for children. My experiences there taught me about the kind of impact I wanted to make in the future. Treating children is the most satisfying job possible. Their unique resilience inspires me. It’s an indescribable feeling to see a child get well, go home from the hospital and know that I played a major role — with a team of people — to make this happen. I care deeply about continuously growing as a physician and exploring new ways to help my patients. In medicine, there is always room to learn, research and look to the future I feel tremendous empathy for families when their child is in the hospital, as I understand this can be an incredibly stressful experience. One way I can help is to try to create a very good working relationship. I work hard to communicate clearly, explain the diagnosis, results and plan of care in an understandable way. Furthermore, I strive to make sure that all of the family’s needs are met. Dr. Struk is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Acute Pancreatitis. Her clinical expertise encompasses Delayed Growth, Cerebral Hypoxia, Rasmussen Encephalitis, and Malnutrition. Dr. Struk is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.
Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I was born and raised in Michigan. Growing up, I always enjoyed science and math. The idea of working in a health field occurred to me later, while I was running cross country and track in college. In many ways, the dedication and discipline I learned as a runner laid the foundation for my career in medicine. My patients are fun, sincere and so trusting that it inspires me to be their best advocate. One of the many things I like about my job is the opportunity to have great conversations every day. I enjoy them all — from a cooing contest with a two-month-old to a discussion about a stressful high school situation with a teenager. Children deserve access to health care, and I work to provide equal and inclusive care. I feel a responsibility to do everything I can to make sure all the children I see get the care they need. By following the simple rule about treating the person — not just the illness. I also look for little opportunities that can change the hearts and minds of others when it comes to interacting with patients and families who are dealing with illness.
