Overview
Dr. Assam is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained retina specialist dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of complex retinal diseases.
His clinical expertise includes managing conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal detachment (RD), macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and complications from ocular trauma or surgery. He specializes in retinal laser procedures, intravitreal injections, and advanced vitreoretinal surgery.
Dr. Assam earned a masters degree in Human Clinical Anatomy from Creighton University before attending medical school at the USD Sanford School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, where he served as Chief Resident and was named Intern of the Year. He then pursued a highly competitive two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he trained under nationally recognized leaders in retina care.
