Dr. Michael A. Mooney

Dr. Mooney is an Attending Neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery and an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Mooney completed his undergraduate training at the University of Michigan where he studied Neuroscience. He subsequently completed a research fellowship in neurogenetics at the National Institutes of Health prior to attending medical school at Cornell. He completed his residency training at the Barrow Neurological Institute with a focus on complex cranial and spine surgery, and he completed a clinical fellowship in skull base surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.Dr. Mooney’s clinical practice covers both brain and spine surgery, including brain and spine tumors, degenerative spine disease/spinal stenosis, and minimally-invasive spine techniques. He is dedicated to thoughtful patient selection and preoperative evaluation in order to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients, and he is committed to improving healthcare delivery for patients through his work as the Director of Clinical Care Redesign within Mass General Brigham.
