Overview
I treat hip disorders in patients of all ages, from young athletes to elderly patients with arthritis. I received additional training in arthroscopic treatment of hip disorders such as femoroacetabular impingement, labral tears and gluteal and hamstring tendon disorders. Many of my patients come to me because of my expertise using the anterior approach to hip replacement surgery. I also perform open and arthroscopic procedures for the treatment of hip dysplasia.

Clinical Research
Clinical research consists of overseeing clinical studies of patients undergoing new treatments and therapies, and publishing articles in peer reviewed medical journals. Providers who actively participate in clinical research are generally at the forefront of the fields and aware of the most up-to-date advances in treatments for their patients.
Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center
Over time, my practice has evolved into a mixture of caring for injury-related conditions and degenerative conditions. My practice now focuses on the care and treatment of conditions of the hip. In the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to gain extensive experience in hip arthroscopic techniques. I treat fractures and dislocations of the hip and pelvis, osteotomy for dysplasia and deformity of the hip, and arthroscopy of sports and degenerative injuries of the hip. I perform hip replacement when it is indicated. I was born and raised in Missouri. As a boy, I worked in my father's service station. Neither of my parents attended college, and I am the first person in my family to enter the medical field. The values of hard work and commitment to continual personal improvement are lessons from my youth. I began my practice at Duke in 2000. I also help manage revision surgeries and take care of people with infections or fractures around their implants. I am interested in the whole continuum of care for arthritis and not just the surgical treatment of it. Even though I specialize in surgery, not everyone needs that treatment, and as an orthopaedic doctor, my role is to help direct the whole process.
