I was born in India to a family of doctors, so I did not have to look far for inspiration. I’m married to a pediatric cardiologist, also with duPont Hospital for Children, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I have every day to improve lives for kids and their families. As a father and surgeon, I have a soft spot for helping children in any way I can. It’s a privilege to be able to improve their lives even if there are challenges. I love to see kids getting back to enjoying life to its fullest and being able to help people deal with difficult issues. One of my proudest professional moments was the day I walked into the operating room and had the privilege to start surgically caring for children. I’m still passionate about my work and the opportunities I have every day to improve the lives of kids, one child at a time. The children I treat have serious medical problems, and it takes a whole team of professionals, working in lots of related medical and sociological fields, to make a difference in their lives, and the lives of their families. It’s an honor to be part of that team. At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids. Dr. Thacker is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia. I chose orthopedics because I love helping people get back on their feet, and I looked at how happy Orthopedic surgeons were 20 years into their practice. That is always a good sign that you have chosen a career path wisely! I was once a kid myself! Growing up I was a babysitter and a nanny, so I kind of grew up around kids. When I did mission work in Guatemala, I gravitated toward taking care of children. When I became interested in pediatric orthopedics, I started focusing on deformity correction because that mostly affects children. I’m passionate about being a doctor in general, and a doctor at Nemours in particular. Also, I think it’s important for people to learn to take care of themselves. As health issues, smoking and obesity are personal hot-buttons for me. I love what I do, and enjoy the interaction with parents and kids. I treat the whole patient as an individual, not just their orthopedic needs, and I treat each child as my own. I’m a kid at heart, and I usually express that in my work. When I was accepted into my pediatric fellowship, following a residency in orthopedics, I knew my professional life would always center on kids. I’m a doer and my favorite quote by Emerson is, “What you do speaks so loudly that I can't hear what you say.” Whether as a doctor, parent, or coach, I really enjoy working with kids. I’ve always found the human body fascinating and mystifying in all its complexity. The science of growth is absolutely amazing. I’m passionate about working with kids. I’ve taken a group of middle school recreational runners to two league championships. I also received a national coaching award at Stanford University. In my research, I’ve helped develop new surgical techniques for an extremely difficult condition called osteogenesis imperfecta. My mother’s career as a nurse started my interest in medicine. I volunteered as a candy striper during high school and worked as a nursing assistant through college. After college and medical school in my home state of Ohio, I moved to Delaware for a Nemours residency that combined pediatrics with physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physical medicine and rehabilitation is a way to help children with neuromuscular conditions reach the highest function that they can. I find my patients fun to work with, I love watching them grow, and I enjoy getting to know them and their families. The kids I treat inspire me with their resilience. I’m passionate about helping families of children with neuromuscular injuries or congenital issues become active, informed participants on their child’s care team. It takes a group effort to help an injured child return to prior function or to help a child with a chronic condition make the most of function they have. I make the patient and family’s goals my own. We may be trying to return a child to sports quickly after a concussion or helping a child with a chronic condition participate in meaningful activities. Rehab at Nemours means physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers and others working together with the family. Teamwork is one of our strengths. Dr. Wade Shrader is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, division chief of the Nemours Cerebral Palsy Center, and is on the board of directors, American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine. He’s also been an invited lecturer, active researcher, and a reviewer, editor and contributor of medical journals and book chapters. I think children represent the center of hope in our families. I became a pediatric doctor to help nurture that hope in each family so that each child we care for can reach their absolute best potential. I love the engineering aspects of orthopedics. Doing orthopedics in children just seemed like the perfect fit for me. After my two sons were diagnosed with their cerebral palsy (CP), the first time I took care of a family of a child with CP, I knew that this was my purpose in life: to try to help families like mine. I am passionate about being an advocate for improved health care and improved access to society for children and adults with disabilities. I truly try to treat each child and each family how I want my children and my family treated. As a special needs parent myself, I like to let my patients’ families know that, so that I can help in some small way by saying “I know what you’re going through, and I’m going to do everything in my power to help you.”. Dr. Shrader is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia. He is also highly rated in 24 other conditions, according to our data. I find inspiration in the motivation and optimism of my patients. Most kids I treat have complex medical needs or physical disabilities. I see my role as helpingeach child function to the best of his or her ability, removing barriers, and opening up opportunities for socialization and personal fulfillment. I want my patients to be able to enjoy the same ordinary and extraordinary life experiences as other kids. I had planned to become a general pediatrician until I fell in love with pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). My father, a PM&R doctor, encouraged me to rotate through his subspecialty as a medical school rotation. I never could have anticipated that this residency experience would lead me to change my career path. Now, as an attending physician in pediatric PM&R, I take every opportunity to introduce residents and medical students to the field and train them. Most arrive here intending to pursue a career working with adult patients. After spending two months training alongside my colleagues and me, many have changed their career paths to focus exclusively on caring for kids. I build relationships with my patients by showing an interest in their lives outside of their medical needs. I talk with them and ask questions about things that are important to them, like their favorite toys, TV shows or activities. I try to see them for the unique human beings they are and build a sense of trust. Building a strong relationship helps me to better understand my patients and what is most important to them. This allows me to give the right support and help each one work toward reaching his or her goals and dreams. I am a first-generation daughter of a Holocaust survivor, and grew up in central New Jersey with two brothers — one has cerebral palsy. I’ve always been interested in science and education, and, with my mother as a role model, I am a strong advocate for inclusion, disability, and other issues. I relate well with kids in general and especially those who have disabilities. As a pediatric rehabilitation physician, I like to guide children’s recovery and rehab, help patients and their families set realistic expectations, and get them through the experience with all the information they’ll need. I’m a powerful advocate for the disabled, inspired by my mother’s steadfast commitment to help my brother succeed in his own life. I’m passionate about giving parents those same tools, educating children and families dealing with disabilities and injuries about the process of recovery. So they can be prepared. It’s important to give injured children and their families as much guidance and deep honesty as possible, so they can go through the experience knowing what to expect. This approach improves follow-through and success, and it’s also how I train residents. Dr. Haas is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia. What is the definition of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia?

Beukes hip dysplasia (BHD) is a rare inherited skeletal dysplasia affecting the hip joint. In general, skeletal dysplasias are a group of disorders which affect the bone and cartilage. Skeletal dysplasias are more commonly known as types of dwarfism, but not all skeletal dysplasias cause a person to be short in height. In fact, BHD only affects the hip joint. A person with BHD is similar in height to other family members. There are no other health problems associated with BHD. Beukes hip dysplasia (BHD) causes severe progressive degenerative osteoarthritis of the hip joint in early adulthood. Symptoms of hip joint pain and discomfort usually begin in infancy or later childhood, but may also begin as late as the mid-30s. Severity of the condition varies even among family members. In fact some people who inherit the change in the gene which causes BHD never develop any problems with their hip joint. After symptoms begin, the characteristic signs of secondary osteoarthritis (including bone sclerosis, cyst formation and narrowing of the joint space) develop and the joint deteriorates rapidly. As of 2015, BHD has only been found in relatives of a single family in South Africa who were of European descent. BHD has affected many generations and members of this family. Family members with BHD now live in other parts of the world as well.

When should I see a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctors in Delaware, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctors in Delaware, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals.
