I’m a radiologist at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, and I also interpret medical images for children who visit other Nemours facilities in Delaware Valley and Florida. I enjoy radiology because I can focus on the interesting puzzle of diagnosis and also work collaboratively with referring physicians. I’m married and have two young sons. Pediatric radiology allows me to interact and connect with my patients at a greater level than adult practice. And working with different specialists in a pediatric setting makes it a joy to provide the highest quality and most technologically advanced care. I’m passionate about helping kids get better with the least amount pain or life disruption. It’s personally fulfilling to make a diagnosis that saves a child from an unnecessary or painful procedure. My father, who was a physician, was a great role model. He was caring, smart, and made a difference by helping his patients live healthier and more productive lives. I was born in India to a family of doctors, so I did not have to look far for inspiration. I’m married to a pediatric cardiologist, also with duPont Hospital for Children, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I have every day to improve lives for kids and their families. As a father and surgeon, I have a soft spot for helping children in any way I can. It’s a privilege to be able to improve their lives even if there are challenges. I love to see kids getting back to enjoying life to its fullest and being able to help people deal with difficult issues. One of my proudest professional moments was the day I walked into the operating room and had the privilege to start surgically caring for children. I’m still passionate about my work and the opportunities I have every day to improve the lives of kids, one child at a time. The children I treat have serious medical problems, and it takes a whole team of professionals, working in lots of related medical and sociological fields, to make a difference in their lives, and the lives of their families. It’s an honor to be part of that team. At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids. Dr. Thacker is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Brachydactyly Mononen Type. Dr. Jeffery Campbell has been a pediatric neurosurgeon at Nemours for 20 years. His most notable work is with kids that have skeletal dysplasia and he acts as the neurosurgical component of our larger skeletal dysplasia program at Nemours. Most of his research has been in dwarfism and osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Prior to Nemours, he worked in a private practice in Charleston, SC. When I was in medical school, I knew that I wanted to do something “brain-related.” During my fourth year, I did a neurology rotation and thoroughly enjoyed the immediate feedback of surgery. I split my residency time between pediatric and adult hospitals, but quickly realized that I loved working with kids. I was able to see kids get better and found the impact I had on them gratifying. My goal as a doctor is to have a long-term impact on someone’s life and treating kids was my path to do just that. I am passionate about providing the best possible care for all children. Dr. Vandna Passi is a pediatric pulmonologist at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. She's an author of peer-reviewed medical journal articles, an invited presenter and an active researcher. I always wanted to work with children, and knew I wanted to be a pediatrician since I finished college. Then, in medical school, I spent a lot of my fourth year in pediatric subspecialties. Now, I get a lot of satisfaction seeing my patients over the long term — I can see their progress and development, and watch them as they grow. Children are such fun to work with and it can be simpler to approach their health issues than with adults. It's very fulfilling. One reason I chose pediatric pulmonology was because I liked the mix of being able to see and help children on an outpatient basis (helping kids on well and sick visits in our clinic) and also provide inpatient care to children who are acutely sick and admitted to the hospital. In my residency, I saw a lot of inner-city children. Many became seriously ill simply because their asthma wasn't being cared for, they hadn't been diagnosed properly, or they (and their families) hadn't been properly educated on how to manage their care. This was way more common than it should have been. I knew I wanted to help these kids, as well as all those who had other pulmonology issues, too. I'm passionate about working with patients and families to educate them on the conditions they’re dealing with, and how to prevent serious episodes and achieve the best possible quality of life. I'm also passionate about our hospital and staff continually setting best practices for treating children with pulmonology conditions and following those procedures routinely. I'm especially interested in these procedures being followed in our intensive care unit (ICU), as well as in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and outpatient clinic. A big part of what I do is educate families on what they need to know regarding their child's condition and health, including proper medication and care. I can't be with their child at all times, so it's really about empowering each family to help their child's quality of life. In children with asthma, for instance, I feel they should never be limited. Together with their family, I want to help them do whatever they want to do in life. Dr. Passi is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Brachydactyly Mononen Type. Her top areas of expertise are Subglottic Stenosis, Ellis-Van Creveld Syndrome, Thanatophoric Dysplasia, and Kozlowski Warren Fisher Syndrome.

I chose orthopedics because I love helping people get back on their feet, and I looked at how happy Orthopedic surgeons were 20 years into their practice. That is always a good sign that you have chosen a career path wisely! I was once a kid myself! Growing up I was a babysitter and a nanny, so I kind of grew up around kids. When I did mission work in Guatemala, I gravitated toward taking care of children. When I became interested in pediatric orthopedics, I started focusing on deformity correction because that mostly affects children. I’m passionate about being a doctor in general, and a doctor at Nemours in particular. Also, I think it’s important for people to learn to take care of themselves. As health issues, smoking and obesity are personal hot-buttons for me. I love what I do, and enjoy the interaction with parents and kids. I treat the whole patient as an individual, not just their orthopedic needs, and I treat each child as my own. Dr. Nichols is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Brachydactyly Mononen Type. Her top areas of expertise are Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, Congenital Contractures, Clubfoot, Tenotomy, and Osteotomy.

Growing up in Ocean City, NJ, I was active in track and cross country and always loved science. Before medical school, I majored in psychology with a focus on child development at Duke University. I find it extremely rewarding to work with children and always knew I wanted to be a pediatrician. The doctors I had as a child were role models for me. Both of my parents are educators and they also inspire me to want to make a difference. I feel it is a privilege when families put their trust in me and allow me to care for their children. I am passionate about education and working with the physicians in our fellowship program. I hope to be an inspiration for medical students and residents the way that my mentors at Thomas Jefferson University were for me. I also believe in adding to our medical knowledge through continuing research. I take the time to get to know my patients and their families. I believe all children should enjoy a high quality of life, and I strive to treat my patients so they can excel in school, participate in sports and other activities, and spend time with their family and friends. Dr. Defelice is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Brachydactyly Mononen Type. Her top areas of expertise are Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), Allergic Conjunctivitis, Asthma, and Allergic Rhinitis.

Both of my parents were in the medical field and strongly influenced the direction of my career. I became a physical therapist, which I enjoyed immensely, but I thought I could make a different contribution to patient care by becoming a physician. In radiology, we are part of the medical team that helps diagnose or exclude an illness and we help to direct the course of our patient’s treatment. Working with children is an amazing experience. Kids are so resilient and bounce back from all types of difficult situations. They each have such a unique perspective and we try our best to tailor our interactive imaging procedures to the child. Sometimes this involves providing anatomy lessons to teen patients, other times it involves just “getting it over with.” We aim to make our imaging procedures as interesting and as comfortable as possible. My areas of interest include: Pediatric Body Imaging Fetal Imaging Child Abuse I try to provide the most accurate information based on our imaging studies to the patient’s medical team so that the child can be treated as quickly as possible. I am fortunate to work with an incredible group of medical practitioners at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children who share my passion to provide the highest quality medical care to all children.
