Dr. Carrie A. Cashman

Dr. Cashman joined Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in July, 2016. Dr. Carrie Cashman is a board certified general surgeon who specializes in breast surgical oncology and the treatment of both benign and malignant breast diseases. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Michigan and medical school at the University of Arizona. Her surgical training was at the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency Program in Phoenix, AZ.Dr. Cashman uses a patient-centered evidence based approach to breast cancer treatment. She works closely with the medical oncologists and radiation oncologists as well as plastic surgeons and genetic counselors to achieve a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer care for each patient. Decisions regarding type or timing of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, breast reconstruction, and genetic testing are coordinated with the providers to optimize the patient's oncologic and cosmetic outcome.She performs lumpectomy (breast conservation surgery) and uses oncoplastic techniques when appropriate, skin and nipple sparing mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and axillary dissections when indicated. A minimally invasive approach and hidden scar techniques are used whenever possible. Dr. Cashman has received Hidden Scar certification.She also does venous access procedures for those patients requiring chemotherapy, both before and after surgery for breast cancer.Dr. Cashman is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and is certified in breast ultrasound. She is also a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She organizes and runs the breast cancer conference at Banner Desert Medical Center and participates in the multidisciplinary breast cancer clinic with Dignity Hospital as well.Dr. Cashman is married and has 2 children.
